As 2025 unfolded, India rose with quiet strength and shining milestones. It was a year where hope met progress, achievements met pride, and the nation stepped forward with confidence and renewed belief in tomorrow.
That being said, let’s have a look at some of India’s biggest positive news:
- India Becomes the World’s 4th Largest Economy
In 2025, India reached a historic milestone by overtaking Japan to become the world’s fourth-largest economy in nominal GDP terms, the Press Information Bureau said in the release, titled 2025: A Defining Year for India’s Growth. This achievement reflects sustained long-term growth, driven by strong domestic demand, infrastructure expansion, digital innovation, and structural reforms.
In Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) terms, India ranks 3rd globally, behind China and the United States.
Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) compares economies by adjusting GDP for differences in price levels, showing how much people can actually buy within their own countries.
India is witnessing Growth + Inflation Harmony… a rare combination of strong GDP expansion with low inflation. It’s a “Goldilocks” macro environment.
Together, these rankings highlight India’s rising economic strength and growing global influence.
- SpaDeX MISSION Marks India’s Big Leap in Space!
On January 16, 2025, India made history!
ISRO’s SpaDeX mission successfully joined two Indian satellites in orbit. It was a complex maneuver known as space docking.
With this, India became the 4th country in the world to master this advanced space technology, according tothe Indian Space Research Organisation. But why is space docking such a big deal?
Well, it is nothing short of precision parking… that too in space! It allows spacecraft to meet, connect, and work together while moving at thousands of km/hr. And what does this unlock for the future? In simple words, it will pave the way for building space stations piece by piece while also becoming a resting spot for long-duration missions to the moon & beyond.
It will also help in refuelling and repairing satellites instead of throwing them away.
SpaDeX was designed to test rendezvous technology, bringing spacecraft into the same orbit with extreme accuracy. And ISRO nailed it.
PM Narendra Modi called it:
“A significant stepping stone for India’s ambitious space missions in the years to come.”
With the launch of the satellite, India proved that it can lead in science and technology.
- India’s Sports Glory on the World Stage
India’s sporting year was nothing short of spectacular, marked by iconic victories, unforgettable moments, and heroes who rose to the occasion when it mattered most.
The men’s cricket team lifted the ICC Champions Trophy according to official Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) data, powered by consistent performances from senior leaders and young match-winners. Players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli anchored crucial innings, while Jasprit Bumrah’s deadly yorkers and Kuldeep Yadav’s spin spells turned matches in India’s favour. The final’s defining moment came when India defended a challenging total with disciplined bowling, sealing victory amid roaring celebrations.
History was rewritten when the Indian women’s cricket team won the ICC Women’s World Cup for the first time, according to official BCCI data. Led by Harmanpreet Kaur, the team showcased fearless cricket throughout the tournament. Smriti Mandhana’s elegant centuries, Jemimah Rodrigues’ crucial middle-order knocks, and Renuka Singh’s early breakthroughs stood out.
Equally inspiring were the triumphs of India’s women’s blind cricket team, who dominated both the Blind T20 World Cup and the Asia Cup, as reported by official BCCI data. Players like Sheela Sharma and Nirmala Devi delivered match-winning performances, with sharp batting and disciplined bowling. One unforgettable moment was the World Cup final, where India defended a modest total through sheer determination and teamwork.
That makes India the winner of 3 major international titles in one year, two global titles for the Women’s Blind Cricket Team, and an inspiration for many across age, gender, or even ability.
- Global Recognition For Social Security Progress
India earned global recognition by winning the International Social Security Association (ISSA) Award for expanding social security coverage from 19% to 64% within a decade, one of the fastest expansions in the world, according to official data released by the International Social Security Association (ISSA).
Social security refers to government-backed protection that ensures people have financial support and access to essential services during old age, illness, disability, unemployment, or loss of income. It acts as a safety net, especially for vulnerable sections of society.
This success has been driven by landmark schemes such as the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) for salaried workers, Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), providing free health insurance of up to ₹5 lakh per family, and Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan (PM-SYM), which ensures a monthly pension for unorganised workers. Schemes like e-Shram further created a national database of informal workers, enabling targeted benefits.
- India Hits 50% Renewable Power Ahead of Schedule
By mid-2025, more than half of the country’s electricity came from renewable sources such as solar, wind, hydro, and biomass, according to the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE). This milestone was achieved five years earlier than planned.
Solar energy powers the boom, contributing about 30% of capacity, followed by wind (15%) and hydro (4 – 5%). Biomass and other sources add the rest. Together, they’re helping India cut reliance on coal and slash carbon emissions. It is a win for both the planet and public health.
Government programs like PM-KUSUM and Green Energy Corridors, along with state policies and private investment, fueled this renewable surge. Farmers, businesses, and local communities all played a part, proving that clean energy is a collective effort.
This step will boost energy security, strengthen domestic green industries, and put India on track for its Net-Zero 2070 goal. “India is proving that a low-carbon future is not just a dream – it’s happening now”, said Mr Kulbhushan Kumar, the energy expert at Grant Thornton.
With continued innovation and investment, India is set to push renewable energy even further, inspiring the world and lighting up millions of homes sustainably.
