Yes, we all know that the conditions in the Middle East are not good right now. The tension between Gulf countries is rising and becoming more intense day by day. But don’t you think there is more we should know? People around the globe are not only interested in geopolitical wars.
Somewhere, somehow, people must be doing good deeds and trying to make this world a better place. Indeed, some positive things are happening in the Middle East.
1.The Growing Education And Innovation
People around the globe consider pursuing medical degrees in countries like Iran, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia, but the Middle East offers more than that. One can also learn Engineering, Tech, Business & Finance.
An example of this progress is the work of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre in the United Arab Emirates, which successfully launched the Emirates Mars Mission, also known as the Hope Probe, to study Mars’s atmosphere.
At the same time, universities and research centres in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Israel are expanding research in fields such as artificial intelligence, medicine, and climate science. International collaborations are also growing, with the UK’s Aston University launching Egypt’s first accredited British medical school.
2. Steps Towards Sustainability
Crude oil has definitely played a crucial role in making the Gulf Countries what they are now. But we all know the oil will not be this easily available in the future. There are many projects in which Gulf Countries are investing heavily to reduce dependence on oil.
For instance, the United Arab Emirates has built one of the world’s largest solar parks, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which is expected to power millions of homes.
Similarly, Saudi Arabia launched the Saudi Green Initiative, aiming to plant billions of trees and reduce carbon emissions
3. Cultural and Tourism Growth
The best thing in the Gulf Countries is tourism. As a result, these countries are rapidly turning into cultural exchange centres.
Saudi Arabia is transforming historic areas like Al‑Ula into global cultural destinations.
And the United Arab Emirates continues to attract global visitors through landmarks such as the Louvre Abu Dhabi, which promotes international cultural exchange.
4. The Efforts of the NGOs
Despite political tensions, several Middle Eastern countries are contributing to relief funds and NGOs.
A notable example is Qatar Charity, one of the largest humanitarian NGOs in the Middle East. It funds projects such as building schools, hospitals, water wells, and refugee housing in countries across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. It also provides emergency relief during wars or natural disasters.
Similarly, Emirates Red Crescent is the official humanitarian organization of the United Arab Emirates. It sends food, medicine, and financial aid to countries suffering from disasters, conflicts, or poverty.
5. Attempts to Improve Diplomatic Relations
It’s not true that everything is leading towards conflicts. There have also been attempts to improve diplomatic relations.
One significant step was the Abraham Accords, which led to normalisation agreements between Israel and several Arab countries, including the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. And the recent talks between Saudi Arabia and Iran have signalled attempts to reduce long-standing regional tensions.
